Day Trip or Overnight to Annecy

My wife and I will return to the alps this September (yay!). Part of the itinerary is Chamonix - Geneva - Annecy - Lyon. We want to spend a day in Annecy and I'd like opinions on how to do it. Plan A is to spend two nights in Geneva, take the bus to Annecy and spend one night there, then bus on to Lyon. Alternatively, we could also extend our stay in Geneva by one night and take a day trip to Annecy. There seem to be advantages to both ideas. Thanks for any advice.

Annecy is worth staying overnight.

Amen to that! We spent five days around Annecy, and they are a highlight of my life becaue of the sheer beauty of the lake and the area. I have traveled in France since 1969 (ok, do the math), and have seen a lot of the country, many places mutliple times--and Annecy stands out. Enjoy it!

Another Annecy fan. But "Old Annecy" itself is not as big as you might think. Unless you are big-time shoppers. Perhaps a 2 hr visit?? More, if you take a boat trip on the lake. However - Annecy is quite lively at night during the "season". We were last there for 2 weeks (actually, in Talloires) - plus several "short stays" prior to that. We were also in Mt Blanc/Chamonix for 1 week, and didn't see much sun (early July).

Here is my wife's Shutterfly book for Annecy
