That is a long way---about 6 hours by train and bus each way. I guess you could catch a hydrofoil and then rent a car but why? Stay in Venice and enjoy that.

Hi madar,

any reason you don't want to stay in and around venice for your 5 days? we were there for a week at easter and found plenty to occupy us.

as well as using the vaporetti to get around the city itself, [and walking a lot, of course] you can get boats out to the islands of murano, burano and torcello, and the lido, plus the train will get you to Padua or Verona within an hour or so.

that should be more than enough for 5 days, i think.

have a great trip,

regards, ann

OH dont get me wrong I love venice ... this will be my 4th time there Its just that a friend of mine was there this summer and she mentioned these caves so I thought I'd take a day tour there. I normally do all my excursions but my friend had a package tour and these caves were part of it. She was staying at Lido di Jesolo and said that it only took them 2 hrs by coach to get there thats why I thought it would sound good.

sorry madar, didn't realise you were an old hand.

nevertheless, this seems like a bridge too far.
