Day tours from Bruges

We will be spending 4 nights in Bruges in Sept. Any suggestions for day trips? Has anyone taking a Quasimodo tour of the countryside? Thanks.
Jean

Antwerrpen and Gent are all very interesting old towns worth at least whole day for each, and within very short, frequent train ride. Within 15 minutes train ride, Oostende is good for an afternoon stroll on the promenade along the harbour, visiting the seafood stands, and end with a nice seafood dinner(much better value than in Brugge) watching sunset into North Sea.

Jean, I'm sorry to offer second-hand info. When I was in Bruges for three nights there wasn't time to do a tour with Quasimodo, but I met two couples who highly recommended the chocolate-beer-cheese tour of the countryside. The days for that tour alternate with the historical tour. Both couples said that the English-speaking guide was fabulous and quite entertaining. The cost was very reasonable, and I would really like to include a tour if I make it back someday.

Heather, we just got back from Belgium and France last week. We did take the Quasimodo day tour of the countryside (no cheese, but a delicious waffle with lunch). The driver/guide Lode was wonderful and really informative. We learned a great deal about Flemish life/culture. I would highly recommend his tours. The other tour he offers is WWI sights. All tours in English. Had a wonderful time.

We took the Quasimodo WWI tour when we were in Bruge for 6 days this past May.
My husband was reading "All Quiet on the Western Front" in German for the week before that so he really wanted to do this tour when we saw a notice about it. The guide was very knowlegeable about the subject of WWI and very passionate in his interest for it. He was quite a rude person to the people on the day tour (even threw a book at one elderly lady) so we avoided any contact personally with him but did find his lectures informative and interesting.

I noted (with pleasure)that noone suggested Brussels. If you go to Brussels, after you see the Mannequin Pis (small statue of boy taking a leak) you will realize that something is wrong when this is arguably the most famous thing about the city! In fact, I even suggest seeing Antwerp over Brussels.
