Day or night departure from Konstanz

Hello,

After our stay in Konstanz in the first week of May, 2019, we have only 2 days to see Wurzburg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Bamberg. Our current plan is to overnight in Wurzburg for 2 nights.

We tried to hire a car but couldn't find a rental company open for a car pick up on a Sunday (the one way rental fee would have been worth it).

So we will have to travel by train which on DBhan shows as 5 and half hours. We love train travel but don't know if the scenery on this route is worth it or if we should look at catching an early evening train so that we don't lose half a day.

We would appreciate advice if the scenery should not be missed or if we should catch an evening train from Konstanz to Wurzburg.

Thank you.

To spare yourselves extra time in Konstanz take the late afternoon train out of Konstanz for your 2 nights in W'burg; the 15:52 - 21:21 looks good and you can do the whole thing on a Baden-Württemberg ticket (€30/2, no advance purchase needed, buy at station.) But if you want you can step off in Stuttgart for dinner - for 1.5 hrs in Stuttgart you could leave Konstanz on the 14:52, get to Stuttgart at 17:32, leave around 19:00, and still get to W'burg by 21:21. (This would be a saver fare ticket - pre-purchase online.) It's possible to get into Wburg later I guess but you won't gain much time in Konstanz.

The next day you will not have a lot of time if you hope to see both W'burg and Rothenburg. Perhaps you'll be seeing something of W'burg on your final morning there before taking off.

You can see the scenery - nice thru edges of Black Forest - in May until you practically get to Wurzburg.
