Day Before cruise from Barceloma
Hi,
We will be taking a NCL cruise of France, Spain and Italy in Sept, 08.
I am looking at a day or 2 in Barceloma before the cruise.
Any suggestions of where to stay on arriving in Barceloma ?
I have read some posts about other things to see around this area..............suggestions?
Any info about tour companies to use, instead of the cruise line tours? In Barceloma, Rome , Nice, Pisa.
I found one in Italy online and it was very $$$$$!
Thanks for all your recommendations!

No need to take a tour. You can easily explore BCN on your own by walking and using public transport.

>>>Looks like we shall spend a lot for food in Barceloma!<<<
No need. Food in BCN is inexpensive. Count half the price of that what you pay in France, Italy, Germany or USA. This means
- decent food for little money (fast food restaurant level),
- affordable gourmet cuisine.
You find hardly any other city with such a density of Michelin-star awarded restaurants.

Hi lucyaw
Google Maribel's Guide to Spain. Look in the city guides section for Barcelona (with an "n", not "m", by the way). You will get a wealth of information about the city, including hotels, restaurants, things to do and see. Really helpful.

There is a hop on / hop off bus that will be fine - no need for an expensive tour. IMO try to add at least two days for Barcelona. The first day you will be jet lagged, not optimal for sightweeing and there is alot to see and do in Barcelona. I would suggest staying in the Area Gothic (old quarter). You can look for hotels on Tripadvisor. I don't thik food should be too pricey but don't eat on Las Ramblas.

Hi Lucyaw,
The cost effectiveness of tour companies depends on how many in your group. I was on a Med tour in August and because there were sevan of us using private tour companies saved us a significant amount over the ships excursions.
We used Claudio at limoinrome.com for the Rome excursion and medtours.com for an excursion from Villefranche to Monaco/Monte Carlo and Eze. Both were excellent.
You could check the cruise threads and also look at cruisecritic.com for a lot more information.

This is where we stayed last year after our cruise. The rooms are large and very nice. It is convenient from the cruise ship and right in the center of things. Definitely do the hop on and off bus which is a short walk from the hotel. There is a lot to see in Barcelona.
