Customs declaration: GVA-FRA-Astana

I'm from Asia and traveling from Zurich to Asia via Frankfurt. And I would like to know the procedure for customs clearance as I will have some merchandises with me.

When I declare the merchandises at the Zurich airport and take them in my hand luggage. So I have the following questions:
  1. should I expect to be controlled at the Frankfurt airport transit area?
  2. Should I be imposed to pay taxes in this transit area for these merchandises?
  3. Will it be different if I put the merchandise in my checked-in luggage instead of hand-luggage?
  4. Because my first flight is within Schengen and the next one is outside of Schengen, should I have to get my checked-in luggage at the Frankfurt and get the luggage check-in again? I've heard it and would like to get a confirmation on this.
And any other tips or advice on this itinerary will be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Fodors. I am a bit confused. You say you are flying ZRH to FRA to someplace in Asia. There is no customs when leaving a country -- it is at your arrival country that you go through Customs and will then have to declare them or not depending on what they are

I think they mean to claim VAT back on things they have purchased.
I have no idea about the procedure though as I don't qualify for it.
