cultural events

I am looking for help on how to get cheap tickets to events (i.e theater, opera, classical concerts, etc....) Also..

If there are ways of doing these things for free in Italy (for instance, church concerts, going to student concerts, etc...) Anybody know of any more? Please let me know!

Thanks!
Patricia

Frequent travellers to Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice, Naples, etc.... can you offer seasoned ways of locating free concerts in these cities --or know of ways to get tickets extremely cheap or free (I am a student)?

Thanks so much in advance!

Patricia, Since you are being general about the type of venues you are interested in, this web site may be of help to you: whatsonwhen.com (global events guide).

i am kane,

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try looking here.

nytraveller,

"but you seem to do a just wonderful job of attacking a group of people"

I think this is going overboard. I didn't attack anyone, if anything, cmt was being overly critical and negative. By the way I apologized and I always say thanks to anyone who is truly giving helpful information but not always to people who *feel* they need to correct me --this board isn't about correcting people, but about sharing the requested information in a polite manner.

I mean if I was doing a dissertation I might come to cmt, but I'm not.

Thanks!
Patricia

Here's another site for musical events in Italy

http://initaly.com/regions/music.htm

Believe it or not, by going to the Fodor's miniguides you can find this info. For example, for Rome, here

http://fodors.com/miniguides/mgresul...=full&pg=9

it says

SANT'IGNAZIO
Piazza Sant'Ignazio, Rome, Italy
Phone: 06/6794560
  Music (Classical)
Pantheon
Look for posters outside churches announcing free concerts, particularly at the church of Sant'Ignazio, which often hosts concerts in a spectacularly frescoed setting.

You can also do a general web search for free concerts in Italy. Also, if you register for free at the NYTimes.com you can do a search on their data base.

Thanks mclaurie. I will check out this site.

Taggie, I hate to say it, but I think people just like to get riled up.

Thanks to both of you for your help!
