Cruising to Rome

We will be taking a Cruise in May that will end in Rome. We would love to stay in Italy for a few more days. Do you go through immigration before you leave the ship and enter Italy? Also, do you need to be tested when you get off the ship before entering Rome? We are both Vaccinated and Boosted.
Thanks for any advice you can provide

If your last port before Civitavecchia/Rome was within the Schengen zone, you’ll just walk off the ship as you’d already have gone through immigration at the previous port.

No idea what the Covid testing protocol is, you’ll need to check with the cruise line or on your ship’s Roll Call.
