Hi mousireid, there are cruises that GO to Sicily but I do not believe there are any cruises that leave from Sicily. I am almost positive that the cruise ships just stop at Sicily.

Do you mean little cruises of the Aeolian islands or the Egadi islands or cruises to other countries? The former, yes. The latter, you probably should ask a local travel agent.

Even the cruies around the Aeolians would be great. It sodesn't have to be far, just a day or two to enjoy a cruise!

Try the local travel agent if you really want a cruise but you can go to the Aeolian Islands easy on the ferry. I love Lipari. Rent a vespa for the day and go all over the island!

There are innumerable ferries, hydrofoils, catamarans and excursions boats operating around the Eolian islands. There are also various links to the other seven islands around Sicily. I don't know of any cruise ships based in Sicily, but some of the ferries to and from the mainland are like cruise ships - try Grandi Navi Veloci (www.gnv.it) who run to Palermo from Genova and Civitavecchia.

Here is a posting on ferry ships to and from the Aeolian Islands:

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...island+hopping

These are not "cruises", but rather local transportation. Fares are low, and service is pretty reliable, except during bad weather (mainly in winter), when service is sometimes cancelled.

You can also take a ferry ship to Ustica Island (from Palermo), the 3 Egadi Islands (from Trapani), Pantelleria Island (from Trapani or Mazara del Vallo) and the 2 Pelagie Islands (from Porto Empedocle). The ferries are not luxurious by any means, but are great fun and, in sunny weather, afford magnificent views and videos/photos.
