Obviously more than my memory is going-- I meant to say,"Is THERE. . ."

cmt Feb 28th, 2004 04:23 AM

It's possible, but I wouldn't deliberately use an answer we've had already. I just don't remember. I just now did a search on this forum for the word I have in mind as the answer to this puzzle, and it did not turn up any of the crossword game threads. However, the search funtion is so poor that that may not prove much.

Just so that the clue won't be buried, here it is again:
Four letters. Move the "Z" from Radziwill into third position in this word. It's a place where artists try to outdo one another in painting the walls of the town. There's a biennial contest.

grandmere Feb 28th, 2004 08:09 AM

Cmt, I know you wouldn't do it intentionally, and I certainly could be wrong.
Regardless, I can't find the answer! :-)

cmt Feb 28th, 2004 08:19 AM

Do you want a hint that will make it very (too) easy to find, or do you want to keep trying?

grandmere Feb 28th, 2004 05:17 PM

I need a hint, please!

cmt Feb 28th, 2004 05:29 PM

hint: Italy (Now you will find it.)

grandmere Feb 28th, 2004 05:51 PM

That doesn't help one bit! I was already searching in Italy b/c my deja vu experience was of that and you often post about Italy.

I thought I ought to know it b/c it's a 4 letter town, w/o even the knowledge of the art contest, but no can do!

cmt Feb 28th, 2004 06:26 PM

The walls of this small town are covered with murals. Artists go there from all over the world to paint the murals.

Digital_Traveler Feb 29th, 2004 09:57 AM

After 3 days of searching for a town in italy that is 4 letters, that holds a biennial mural festival, I finally realized why I couldn't...The town's name maybe has 5 letters.
Dozza?

cmt Feb 29th, 2004 10:15 AM

D=1
o=1
z=2
z=3
a=4

Eek! This is terrible! I can't count!!!! I'd better quit. Or change my name. Or add an extra finger. :(

Digital_Traveler Feb 29th, 2004 10:17 AM

cmt,
It happens to the best of us. Don't worry, it was a great learning experience as I read about a lot of interesting places as a result.

Digital_Traveler Feb 29th, 2004 10:39 AM

Clue: In the early 19th century, a Danish artist created this monument to a long-standing group of mercenaries.
1 word - 12 letters.
6th letter is the "D" from Dozza.

cmt Feb 29th, 2004 02:13 PM

Thanks. I'd better double check my counting next time I make up a clue.

I never knew about Swiss mercenaries.

Lowendenkmal?

Digital_Traveler Feb 29th, 2004 04:03 PM

Correct. The swiss guard were not only the pope's muscle...they worked for anyone with enough $.

cmt Mar 1st, 2004 04:13 PM

Famous man recently exhumed in Verona ~675 years after death, in order for scientists to learn more about his life and death. Known by a three-part name: 9, 5, 5 letters. The "d" of Lowendenkmal is the penultimate letter of the first part of the name.

Digital_Traveler Mar 1st, 2004 04:53 PM

I know this one without searching but I will let someone else answer. quite fascinating!

Digital_Traveler Mar 2nd, 2004 11:32 AM

I guess I will answer...Cangrande della Scala?

cmt Mar 2nd, 2004 02:09 PM

Yes, that's it.

Digital_Traveler Mar 2nd, 2004 02:20 PM

Clue: This 17th Century court financier built a residence so sumptuous that it became the archetype for all that followed, however it ultimately landed him in jail.

2 words...both are 7 letters. The 6th letter in the 2nd word is an "E" from Cangrande della Scala.

yk2004 Mar 2nd, 2004 05:42 PM

Well, D_T

Maybe someone else knows the answer, but I haven't got the faintest clue in terms of where to start looking! (ie, maybe a little hint?)
