Digital Traveler, are you still around and willing to play?

Digital_Traveler Apr 17th, 2004 08:18 PM

Well, Let's see if anyone feels like playing.

Clue: Built in 1580, It is reputed to be the oldest surviving indoor theatre.

2words - 1st word is 6 letters, 2nd word is 8 letters. The 3rd letter of the first word is an "A" from Joseph Mallord William Turner.

I thought this thread had died long ago, but I just clicked on my name and was surprised to see this pop to the top.

Digital_Traveler Apr 17th, 2004 08:52 PM

That was quick!

You are up.

Coincidence. I just happen to be up late playing on the 'net while waiting for laundry to dry and just happened to click on my "cmt" just shortly after you posted. Good timing. I'll come up with a new one tomorrow, though. It's time to go.

Four words with letters distributed as follows: 4?4 2 8 The ?m? from Olimpico is the second-to-last letter of the last word.

It?s the name of a village in Tuscany where in 1944 Nazis massacred most of the inhabitants and then burned their bodies in a bonfire. Three of the surviving SS members who participated are scheduled to be tried this week (April 2004).

Those question marks were supposed to be apostrophes or quotation marks. I don't usually do this, but I typed it in Word first, partly to make sure that I counted the letters accurately and typed the distribution of letters correctly. When I pasted it in, I guess some characters changed.

I'll try again:

I was reading about this last week.

Sant'Anna di Stazzema?

cmt Apr 18th, 2004 07:33 AM

That's it! I just read about it this morning in the New York Times. I get it delivered, but people can also read the article online: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/18/in...pe/18TUSC.html

P.S. In case this thread dies down again but you still feel like playing, we have the same kind of thread going fairly actively in the Francophile forum and you can participate there if you register (free) with Delphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/PBPro...ges?msg=3840.1

2 words - 1st word is 6 letters, 2nd letter is 7 letters. The 5th letter of the 2nd word is an a from Sant'Anna di Stazzema.

Hector Guimard?

Digital_Traveler Apr 19th, 2004 07:19 AM

You got it, Grandmere. He was the designer of the metro stations.

You are up.

grandmere Apr 19th, 2004 07:33 AM

That's interesting! I love the stations that have retained the old iron filigree Metro signs.

Ok--this island village is known for its yogurt and honey. 6 letters: the third letter is the "I" from Guimard.

Digital_Traveler Apr 20th, 2004 06:31 AM

a little help?

grandmere Apr 20th, 2004 08:49 AM

The village is on a large Greek island.

grandmere Apr 20th, 2004 10:23 AM

The large Greek island is Crete. The village is in the mountains.
