D_T- you beat me to it!
Did learn a lot about Vlad tonight :-B

Clifton Feb 25th, 2004 09:04 PM

Yes! That's it. I'm always stuck for a new question if I ever get one right. This time though it was fresh in my mind, as Hunedoara is on the list of to-do's on our Romania trip this fall and I just got my Lonely Planet guide in the mail tonight. ;)

You're up DT.

I really love this thread. I have learned and read about so much random stuff that I wouldn't have even considered previously.
yk, if you have a good clue feel free to go next. I don't have anything in mind now.

After reading all this about Hungry and Romania, I am really tempted to see if wifey would consider eastern Europe for this years trip. We really love castles and there are definately some great ones.

Clifton Feb 25th, 2004 09:19 PM

That's what we thought too. We do want to see many of the places that are so popular, but this time, we wanted to really get into areas that weren't as well traveled. Once I got reading about Romania, it seems that it's not built for 4 and 5-star hotel people and it's got some real sadness left from past history. But some of the towns, architecture and scenery just look incredible and hardly visited (relatively speaking). We decided to give it a try.

Most looking forward to the town of Sighisoara in Transylvania, and the monasteries of Bucovina.

It's time for I-)
Plus I can't think of any clues for now.
Clifton- yes, the sights and scenery do look stunning (via the internet, of course). Will be on my list...eventually

D_T? Ready to give us a good clue?

Digital_Traveler Feb 26th, 2004 08:22 AM

Let's try this...
This small street, named for a 19th Century painter, whose most famous work is housed in The Art Institute of Chicago, has been inhabited by the likes of Lawerence Durrell, Chaim Soutine, Emile Lahner, and Kurt Seligmann among others.

2 words - 1st words is 5 letters, 2nd word is 6 letters
The 5 letter of the second word is an "A" from Hunedoara.

Villa Seurat?

Digital_Traveler Feb 26th, 2004 09:04 AM

Correct! Located in Montparnasse, I made a pilgrimage to visit bis 18, the townhouse that Henry Miller lived, last year.

grandmere Feb 26th, 2004 09:32 AM

This prince had a famous architect in the early 19th century build a hunting palace, which still exists today. Chopin was one of its most famous guests. There is a connection between this prince and one of the former US First Ladies. First name 6 letters, 9 in the last. The "A" in Seurat is the second letter of the last name.

Antoni Radziwill? (related to Jacqueline Kennedy's brother-in-law?)

grandmere Feb 26th, 2004 10:29 AM

That's it!

cmt Feb 27th, 2004 04:32 AM

Four letters. Move the "Z" from Radziwill into third position in this word. It's a place where artists try to outdo one another in painting the walls of the town.

Digital_Traveler Feb 27th, 2004 12:18 PM

how 'bout a hint?

cmt Feb 27th, 2004 01:43 PM

hint: There's an annual contest.

cmt Feb 27th, 2004 02:35 PM

Correction: Biennial

Is their a possibility that we did this one before, months ago? Not that I remember the answer, but the clues and search seem so familiar!
