Croatia itinerary review (~ 2.5 weeks)
Hi all,
Would really appreciate feedback on our proposed itinerary for (predominately) Croatia next year. We are currently proposing to fly into and out of Munich (based on award flight availability).
Our main interests are: food (dining, wine, food and wine tours), sightseeing (historical sights, cities/towns), and a slow pace of travel. We are not very 'beachy' (as in water sports) - but do like a few nights in a beach-like place (we visited Mykonos last year and loved it).
At the moment, we have roughly established the places we would visit - not necessarily the things we would do yet. (I know this is planning far in advance, but we need to book flights virtually immediately.)
I would love if anyone has any suggestions - as to whether we are staying at too many places; whether we should have fewer bases and more day trips ...
Plan from Munich is to catch the daytime train to Zagreb, after a few days travel recovery. We would hire a car, most likely upon leaving Zagreb, to travel the majority of the remainder (maybe dropping it off at Split before Hvar, and ferry the rest of the way).
Friday, 29 May 2020: Fly Sydney to Narita
Saturday, 30 May 2020: Fly Narita to Munich (via Doha), arriving Saturday
Sunday, 31 May 2020: Munich
Monday, 1 June 2020: Munich
Tuesday, 2 June 2020: Munich
Wednesday, 3 June 2020: Train to Zagreb
Thursday, 4 June 2020: Zagreb
Friday, 5 June 2020: Plitvice
Saturday, 6 June 2020: Plitvice
Sunday, 7 June 2020: Zadar
Monday, 8 June 2020: Zadar
Tuesday, 9 June 2020: Split
Wednesday, 10 June 2020: Split
Thursday, 11 June 2020: Hvar
Friday, 12 June 2020: Hvar
Saturday, 13 June 2020: Hvar
Sunday, 14 June 2020: Dubrovnik
Monday, 15 June 2020: Dubrovnik
Tuesday, 16 June 2020: Dubrovnik
Wednesday, 17 June 2020: Dubrovnik
Thursday, 18 June 2020: Fly Dubrovnik to Munich
Friday, 19 June 2020: Commence voyage back to Australia
Any insights greatly appreciated

I think you have scheduled more time in Dubrovnik than you need. You might want to consider a trip to Mostar. There are lots of day trips but I would recommend staying overnight. The city is much less crowded in the evenings. Kotor is another very popular destination.

I don’t have many comments since it looks good, but my recommendation would be Korcula for 2-3 nights as it ticks all the boxes of what you like and it has lots of wineries that you can visit. I wrote a detailed trip report with some directions and ideas about 2 years ago which should be in my profile.

Thanks all - I shall start researching this locations.
Appreciate the comment re Dubrovnik; just wanting to ensure we are not too rushed before we travel home. I was also thinking perhaps we are moving once too many, and whether we should just do Plitvice as a day trip, and not stay there...

IME, most people want about 1.5 days for Dubrovnik – and that’s for a leisurely visit. Add a day if you want to go to Kotor.
And 2 nights is a LOT for Zadar – unless there’s something there of particular interest to you.
Personally, I’d add time to Split – not only because its my favorite city in Croatia, but also because it offers some great day trip opitons. JMO.
Hope that helps!
