Croatia Aug 24th to Sept 11th 2009 - Tips
My wife and I as well as one other couple are traveling to Croatia end of this summer.
A little bit about us so you can make better recommendations;
We are 2 couples. Both couples are foodies and big wine drinkers. We would rather spend on a bottle of wine than on a fridge magnet or some other silly thing from a gift shop. My wife and I have been all over Europe, so we would rather meet interesting people at their local eatery, even if we have to struggle with the language and eat whatever food they bring. Its fun to get lost. I can spend hours just sitting at a café and taking pictures of whatever walks or crawls by. We prefer night to daytime and if we have to decide between the two, we will do both. Rental cars are all jeeps and Porches you just have to know how to drive them. ( ; ) don’t tell Hertz!).
That should give you an idea of our personalities.
So…We are looking for recommendations on the following.
-Wineries or Cellars in Istria or along the coast down to Dubrovnik
-A private tour guide to do winery tours in Istria or further south.
-Any accommodations in Istria that you would highly recommend.
-We are all foodies so any restaurants that you would recommend in Istria or along the coast down to Dubrovnik.
- Anything or anyplace you would recommend not missing even if it is remote and out of the way.
Thanks!

Last year we found a great recommendation for a wine tours guide here on Fodor's. His name is Damir and he works with the top wineries throughout western Croatia, His Email is [email protected]
Returned to Croatia this year and revisited the best restaurants from last, plus a few more.
Our favorites.
Blu, near Rovinj.
Le Mandrac, near Opatija.
Valsabbion, near Pula.
Boban, near Split.
Sumica, also near Split.
Also enjoyed food at some Konoba's, which i am happy to list.
Two lovely places to stay.
San Rocco, in Brtonigla.
Mrvely, in Volosko. www.mrvely.com

LittleVicky,
Do you perhaps remmember what Damir charged you? How long ago was it. I am really interested in hearing from him. I have sent him an email.
Is there any way to PM on Fodors?
