Croatia 9 day itinerary help

Hi,

My husband and I are planning a 9 day trip to Croatia.

We are flying into Split from the US, and departing out of Dubrovnik.

Can you please recommend an itinerary for us?

How many days should we spend in each city? Where should we stay in each city?
We also want to do a Plitvice Lakes Tour from Split.

Should we do Hvar or Korcula island, will we have time for both?

We would love to explore as well as relax and enjoy the sea.

Thank you.

You'll get more useful suggestions if you give more information.
When is this trip?
Do the nine days include travel time to get there and back home?
What are your interests?
Will you have a car?
Have you done any research to see which places might interest you most?

In addition to the very comprehensive list SusanP provided, how will you be traveling?, Will you be renting a car or using public transportation?

Thank you so much for the feedback, this is really helpful.

Please see my answers below:
We are traveling and arriving in Split on June 18, leaving out of Dubrovnik on June 28th.

We love adventure, definitely want to try doing all of the palaces/museums/walking around old city centers, etc. We are also big foodies, and love to swim/beaches.
We are hoping to spend some time (3 days)? on the beach to not do anything) should we just focus on Karacula for that, we love wineries, and low key atmosphere.

How many days should we spend in each city? Where should we stay in each city?
We also want to do a Plitvice Lakes Tour from Split.

Do we need to rent a car, or can we get by with water taxies/ ferries? If yes, for what portions of the trip?

We are on a medium/higher end travel budget.
Thanks
