Courtyard in Paris - Marais - Beautiful Statue

Hello.

This posting may seem a bit vague for which I do apologize beforehand. I have visited Paris many times although not recently and am in the process of planning a return trip there in two months. There is a beautiful courtyard in the Marais with a statue of a that I have seen many times from the outside looking through the gates. Everytime I have seen it I have to catch my breath. It seems to be a government building, school, or museum. Unfortunately I have never made a note as to where exactly in the Marais it is located. I always seem to literally stumble upon it while meandering through this neighborhood. Any thoughts as to what it is and especially where it is located would be greatly appreciated. Any of your favorites would also be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I know of one very beautiful courtyard, the one of Musée Carnavalet. It's on rue Sevignée in the 3rd. Could it be that one? Here's a pic: http://p.vtourist.com/1382805.jpg

Yes, sounds like Carnavalet. Here's another pic http://www.insecula.com/salle/MS01275.html which you can look at in panorama.

"a statue of a ???" might help us narrow it down. There is also the Hotel de Sully in the marais which is a museum of photography.

Thank you all SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!! Yes, that's it. The Musée Carnavalet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are WONDERFUL!!! I won't have to search for it now. Instead I can go right to it, which after the Parc de la Place des Vosges, has become a must see for me each and every time I'm in Paris. Please know you someone VERY happy today.

Thanks a million.

yes-- you just mentioned seeing it through the gates -- the museum is one of my favorites in Paris. There are some rooms you will almost always see, there are also changes in exhibits or some rooms that are open while others are closed. It gives you a wonderful trip through the history of Paris. (It is on the Carte Musee, too)
