Couple questions about Termini in Rome

Hello all. I would like to store my rolling carry on size suitcase for about 36 hours in a locker at Termini train station. Is it a safe idea to do this? Are there lockers big enough to accomodate a 21-inch carry on? Do you deposit coins into the locker or pay an attendant? Is there a different way to store my suitcase safely at the train station for this long?

Are there taxis available outside Termini at all times? I will need one pretty late (10:00 -11:00 p.m.) on a Sunday night to take me to Piazza Navona area.

Thanks for any comments!

Sandi

You'll find a taxi but I don't know about the lockers.

I was in Italy in September, and after Sept. 11 the lockers in the train stations were put out of service for security reasons. I don't know whether they've been restored yet or not. The lack of lockers wasn't a problem, however, because there was always a storage room where bags could be checked. Generally a policeman would do a quick search of the bag before it was accepted. Then you would pay the attendant and receive a ticket with which to redeem the bag later. At Termini the storage room is a very big affair with several attendants, and it seemed perfectly safe to me.

Thanks for the helpful replies.

Jahoulih,

Do you know if there is 24-hour access to the luggage storage area you mentioned? I will get back to Rome very late on a Sunday night, maybe later than the 10:00-11:00 p.m. I mentioned. Not sure about this yet. But I just want to know that I will be able to safely store my suitcase and also be able to retrieve it at MY convenience. Any idea on the charge for the storage? About how much per hour?

Thanks!

Sandi

I don't specifically remember the hours myself, but according to

http://www.viviroma.it/servizi/trasporti.asp

the hours are 7 am to midnight, and the price is 5000 lire per 12 hours (which is about what I remember).
