Countryside Help

Hello!
I am utterly confused on how many regions my husband and I can see in France on my upcoming trip (in 2 weeks). We will be driving and are hoping to see as much as possible. We are pretty quick travelers and would rather see more than linger around one area a lot. I know many disagree with that approach, it is just what works for us.

Our very general plans are as follows:

4 days in Paris
2 days in Alsace
2 days in Burgundy
Oops, I hit the reply button by mistake.

Okay, here it is again:

4 days in Paris
2 days in Alsace
2 days in Burgundy
3 days in the Alps
2 days in Provence
3 days in the Riviera

We haven't figured out the main towns to visit in these provinces (any suggestions are much appreciated). I assume, given our limited time, that we will stick to the bigger towns or the areas with the main attractions. I am hoping that we aren't taking on too much. I rarely get my husband to take such a long trip (yes, 2 weeks is long for him), so I have no idea when we will get back to France.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Well, sure you can do it. Just get yourself good maps and plan to stick to the N roads and roar on through.

If you don't like to linger, any trip's a snap.

I'm curious what your trip objectives are, since you don't "like to linger" ? Seriously, lingering is my MAIN objective, so I'm curious to hear from someone whose objective is NOT to linger...

I had a feeling you all would tell me it is way too much. Oh well, I guess I had better start cutting. What do you suggest I cut out? We are really interested in all the areas we have targeted. I know it is hard to say one is better than another, but what would you suggest to a person who may never go to France again (although I hope that is not the case).

Thanks again!!

My husband and I recently returned from a trip with 9 days spent in France. We spent 3 nights in Colmar in alsace which we loved. We then drove through the champagne area south of Reims and stayed at a Chambre d'Hote with a marvelous champagne dinner. The rest of our time in France was spent in Paris. This was our 4th time in France and definitely not the last. I don't know if I'd recommend this area if this is your only trip to France however. Paris of course is a must!

Thanks Diane,
I should have mentioned that we have spent quite a bit of time in Paris. We do love it and will give it at least 4 or 5 days this time. The Alsace region seems quite unique. I noticed you chose to stay in Colmar instead of Strasboug. Were you happy with that decision. I am getting mixed reviews on that one.

I have heard that the French Riviera isn't that great. You may want to cut that out. I just had a conversation with some friends about this.

My suggestions are entirely personal - gleaned from 25+ years traveling in France but also colored by personal likes and dislikes.

I'd skip the Riviera - it's just Las Vegas-type glitz on the Med. Spend 5 days in Provence exploring the Bouche-du-Rhône area - St-Rémy, Les Baux, Avignon, Pont-du-Gard, Nîmes, Arles, etc.

If you never go to France again, having missed the Riviera will be no loss. It's just a beach resort - and in many cases of the worst kind.
Stcirq,
Thanks for the advice on the French Riviera. It was exactly what I needed to hear. I was definitely getting mixed reviews on the area.

If I can ask one more question, do you think Alsace, the Alps and Provence is doable in 13 days? Also, do the sites in these areas require a lot of driving. I would hate to spend a ton of time in the car. It is much better to be out and about.

Thanks again.
