Costa del Sol Trip advice

Hi,

I'm planning a 7 night trip to Costa del sol with a few friends. We are all in our late 20's or early 30's and I was wondering if there is enough to do for 7 days? Are there intersting cities to do day trips? We would have loved Barcelona or Madrid but my time share only has costa del sol available. We are going in May.

Thanks for any advice!

Yes to day trips - Granada is a few-hour drive or bus ride and has one of Europe's most formidable edifices the Alhambra, called the most important Moorish structure in Europe. Worth the trip alone but Granada the town also has the usual big cathedral and narrow lanes in its old town just under the hill-top Alhambra.

Malaga is an old town with some character.

Gibraltar is a short enough bus or car drive down the coast - totally unique place known for its tale-less apes (only apes naturally on European soil) and famous Rock of Gibraltar.

That is great information, thank you.
How far is Madrid and Barcelona? Are their trains or buses to take there or do you have to rent a car?

Madrid is way too far for day trips - 4 hours or more each way by train - Barcelona is even farther.

Cordoba and Seville are possible day trips by train or bus - two wondrous old-world cities - Cordoba has a great cathedral that was once a Moorish Mosque and is a great old town to wander around.

Morocco is also not that far away - head to Algeciras for frequent ferries.

There is a lot to do in the Costa del Sol, but it depends on what you are looking for. Where in the Costa are you staying? May is an excellent month to come.
You can get to Madrid on an early AVE train, first one at 6:35, arriving at Madrid Atocha (in the Museums triangle) at 9:32. Other departs are 7:10, 8:00 and 9:00. And you can come back in the day, at the latest AVE: 21:35, arriving in Malaga at 00:30.
Barcelona is too far away.
