Costa de la Luz advice
We will be visiting Seville in August and then travel down to Costa de la Luz region. We would like to stay by a beach, ideally a self-catered apartment, walking distance to the beach as we have a toddler and walk into town for our evening meals, drinks etc.
It seems somewhere near Conil would suit our needs but wondered if there are any other beaches or a specific spot to stay at.
Our main worry is that the sea has to be shallow and not choppy and ideally not to windy either.
Is there a safe area for children?
We usually spend our summer holidays in Southern Italy and love the leisurely evening walks through town after a meal - Not sure how things are done in Spain but all ideas welcome!
Thanks in advance.

Strolling through town is absolutely the same in Spain as in Italy. We usually have dinner and then a stroll to select a nice bar or cafe to have coffee and drinks.
Conil is probably the best place to stay, as it's the place with the most options for hotels and restaurants, albeit it is small. Just up the coast is Fuente del Gallo, a smaller version of Conil and therefore a bit more quiet. Depends what you want.

Conil is perfect. The beach at Fuente del Gallo is nice and quieter, but not so easy to reach ... lots of steps from the main road. Playa de la Fontanilla is a great beach with fine white sand and shallow water and it's right off the centre of the village.
It may be windy on the beach from time to time ... this is the Atlantic Coast, not the Med.
Many bars restaurants in the centre, great for evening strolls.
Last year we stayed in a hotel (Hotel Fuerte Conil-Costa Luz) but the year before we rented a (half) house with pool through Casas de Conil Agency. Excellent service! - http://www.casas-deconil.com/en/home/

Thanks for the tips, Myriam, are the partments right by Playa de la Fontanilla, I think this is where we want to be so we have the beach on our doorstep and walk into the town for dinner.
The rental agency says its properties are in town so maybe they are not near the beach..I will get in touch with them in any case.
How come you decided on a hotel this time?
Thanks again.

We usually stay at hotels. It was rather unusual for us to rent a house.
Re the apartments: apt. Gloria 1 + 2 are right at the beach. We were in apt. Atalaya 2 which was in a very quiet residential area (we had the pool to ourselves because Atalaya 1 was not occupied). The house was not very far from the beach and the centre (15 min. walk) but Atalaya is on a hill so we mostly took the bikes we rented in town.
Check google maps (google streetview) to have an idea of where the Atalaya neighbourhood is in relation to the beach and the city centre. Our house was in Calle Torre de la Peña. Avenida de la Playa is the main road to the old centre where you will find numerous restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, etc. etc.
