Costa Brava or Garrotxa - an apple or an orange?
Hello all,
We deep into planning our September trip (makes the time go faster). After spending time in Barcelona and Vic and the Pyrenees, we will have three nights in Girona. We want to explore the town slowly and also use one full day to take a tour elsewhere. There are a couple of guides who do full day tours to the Garrotxa national park (full of volcanoes - extinct - and villages such as Besalu) and also to several vilages on the Costa Brava. They cost the same, both are full day tours returning to Girona, both seem very interesting.
Garrotxa: a chance to get into the countryside, into a very unusual area, perhaps not so heavily visited. This is the apple.
Costa Brava villages: a chance to see the beautiful seacoast, perhaps more heavily visited by day trippers such as ourselves, perhaps clogged with tour vans such as ours. This is the orange.
Which one should we do?

Both! No seriously…I’ve spent wonderful days and nights at both ,but it comes down to mountains/extant volcanic regions or the dramatic coastline and pine covered coves of the northern stretch of the Costa Brava—Begur, Aiguablava, Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc. I like this area far more than Roses as it has more character and charm. Cadaqués is lovely, but doesn’t work well as a 3 or 4 night base because of its isolation, one road in, one road out and endless curves. one night there, however to enjoy its artsy, bohemian atmosphere and Dali’s house at Port Lligat would be nice, and great food at Compartir.
