Cost of using WiFi with IPOD

I tried to do a search on the cost of sending emails or using a web browser in Europe with my IPOD (WiFi) Couldn't find results. For some reason I just assumed it would be free, minus the possible cafe charge of using WiFi. Thanks.

You're right. There's no "cell phone" technology in an iPod Touch, so you can only use it with wifi. If you find free wifi, no cost at all. If you have to pay for wifi, that's the only cost.

Just to make sure, you do have an iPod Touch, correct? Not a Shuffle, Nano or Classic? The Touch is the only one with wireless capability.

Thanks so much, Jent. Yes it's a Touch.

There are a number of websites trying to list free wifi hotspots in various cities. There are plenty in London and Paris, but I don't know about other places.

I do find there seems to be a problem between my Android phone wifi and the routers in some free wifi places where I don't have a problem with my netbook. I don't know if the same issues arise for iPods.

I'm traveling right now with an iPad 2 and between free wifi at the places we are staying and a TIM data pkg, I'm thrilled with the coverage. If you know you have wifi at your hotel, you will be fine. I was at the beach today on the Adriatic and the beach club we stumbled on turned out to have free wifi. They didn't even require a password! (my Rome B&B and our apt in the countryside near Spoleto both gave me their passwords.).

For what you need - you should be ok.
