Corsica restaurants
Hi! We plan to be in Corsica early in May , and are enjoying learning as much as we can. The NYTimes Travel section of May 23 had an article re.restaurants in Corsica. ...and we weren't sure whether to be disheartened or annoyed.Of the 6 restaurants reviewed, four tabs (for 2 people)were $175 to $250, one was $ 100, and one---incredibly---was only $45.Surely there must be good meals in Corsica for less than $100?? We welcome suggestions.

bevandbill: I was in Corsica for 2 weeks last summer and was in both Bastia (in the north) and Ajaccio (in the south). The food does not have to be that expensive, I ate at a variety of restaurants and never spent more than 40 or 50 euros. If you are looking to go to those expensive restaurants reviewed by the NYTimes Travel section, than go for it. Otherwise, cheaper and equally good food can be found throughout the cities. I found in Ajaccio that the food prices were a bit cheaper in the outlying areas (along the harbor front, etc) outside of the city centre and not as touristy. What is nice is that there is "prix fixe" menus everywhere and it is posted on a board outside the restaurants, so you can see ahead of time if you want to spend 18, 19, 20 euros for the meal or walk on to the next place.

I would venture a guess that one of the most expensive restaurants reviewed was Le Pirate in Erbalunga.
We spent a month on Corsica one year ago and paid between 32 and 52 Euros for dinner for two including wine (often house), and did NOT eat at Le Pirate (where the cheapest bottle was 65 Euros).
Where in Corsica will you be visiting? Perhaps some of us can give you specific suggestions. And if you click on my name you will see my other Corsican comments, and how to reach me for my Corsican journal - mostly hiking, but other pointers as well.

Good Morning Bev, I believe you are in my area. There is the summer issue of Pays de Provence devoted to Corsica.
listing hotels, restaurants fetes, foires. Try Borders, Barnes and Noble, Kiosk in Harvard Square, and possibly Copley Place newstand.
