Cornwall

Hello,

I will visit Cornwall first time next month. I booked a night in Bude, a night in Penzance and a night in Goran - St Austell. I saw there are many things to do, but I can't decide an itinerary. (I would like to visit some gardens, but there are so many...I also love to see museums, castles). What would you recommend?

If you like gardens the Lost Gardens of Heligan are a must.

The Eden Project is also something of a local speciality. Good luck and enjoy

Agree with foxyfarrell's comments and would add Trebah Valley garden near Helford. My absolute favourite place down there.

Are you in Cornwall for just three days? If so, a day trip to St. Ives may be too much but if you can squeeze it in, a branch of the Tate is located there, also Barbara Hepworth's studio, more or less "as she left it." A Madonna sculpture of hers is in the local charge--hit or miss to find it open.

St. Ives has an interesting little harbor which over the years has become a little more upscale in terms of restaurants but still retains a lot of typical English seaside touches.

In Goran, you will be very close to the Lost Gardens--we spent several hours there--extensive gardens with an interesting history of being re-discovered--nice restaurant, farm and gift shops.

We also like Fowey--east along the coast from St. Austell. Pretty little town with Daphne du Maurier associations. Lanhydrock House is an impressive National Trust property in that general area. In July, driving will take a bit longer due to summer holidays.

For both St. Ives and Fowey, and many other towns along the coasts, take advantage of the park and rides outside the towns--well marked as you come in. There's generally very little parking in the town centers unless you arrive quite early. The buses are very low cost to ride into the towns and usually run every 15 minutes.

Have a wonderful time--I love that part of England.
