copenhagen canal rides
We will have one day in Copenhagen and I prefer to do it myself rather than a group - are their canal boat rides that you can walk up to without prior reservations ? and if so which are the best.
Thanks

DFDS Canal Tours (tel: 3342 3320 or 3264 0431; fax: 3296 9350; e-mail: [email protected]; ) operates multilingual guided tours of the harbour and the canal; boats depart every half hour daily April to October from Nyhavn or Gammel Strand.
Tours last about 50 minutes and cost Dkk50.
They also operate hop-on hop-off Waterbus tours without guides. There are two routes, which both depart from Nyhavn; a one-day pass for both routes costs Dkk40.
The same company also offers a two-hour two-course ‘Dinner Cruise’ taken on-board a restaurant boat, offering a two-course menu while cruising through Copenhagen.
Netto Boats (tel: 3254 4102; ) offers a one-hour guided tour of the harbour and canals for Dkk25.
Boats depart frequently April to October from outside Holmens Church, opposite the Old Stock Exchange.

No reservations required. I know there are two companies, and I tried each. I know one has commentary, but can't recall if the other one does. The answer is sure to be here: http://www.woco.dk

I took a couple of trips with Netto boats and really enjoyed them ... no need to book and they were very reasonably priced (the cost of eating out almost made me faint!)
If you're on the canals be sure to duck whenever you see a bridge up ahead!

My mother is Danish - we went 2 years ago and certainly the canal boat tour is a must! Reasonably priced, no reservations needed....a wonderful way to hear and see Copenhagen. Please try pastry and coffee at our favorite pastry shop (it is quite old - my family has visited it for generations) called La Glace near by off the pedestrian street. Enjoy!
