Haven't been there in September, but a few of my favorite things are
1. the mountains and town of Sintra
2. fado music in the Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon
3. Cabo da Roca, the spectacular cliffs at the westernmost point of Europe
4. walking around the walls of Obidos
5. Serra cheese, fresh bread, tomatoes, and olive oil
6. flying down to Madeira for a few days
7. fishing town of Ericeira
8. watching for tiles everywhere, especially in the churches--beautiful!
9. shopping for textiles and ceramics
10. meeting and talking to some of the nicest people I've ever met!

Sintra, Evora (check out the Ossuary Chapel), Jeronimos Monastery, Cascais, Porto, listening to fado. Portugal's a beautiful country; hope you enjoy your visit!

This would be my top five places to see in Central Portugal:

Belem and Sao Jorge Castle areas in Lisbon

Nazare, with its spectacular O Sitio viewpoint

Batalha monastery

Sintra Palaces and Forests

Picturesque Obidos

But there are heaps of places where you can enjoy a lot.
