Three traveling buddies are going to Versailles for the day. I've been there and don't really want to spend another day there...would like to spend that day doing something special. Considering a cooking course...any suggestions?

Patricia Wells, of the IHT, offers a special cooking class (www.patriciawells.com/), but it looks like all of her 2010 classes are full.

That leaves you with Cook'n with Class (www.cooknwithclass.com/), or you can check David Lebovitz's list of Paris Cooking Classes (http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archive...classes_1.html)

I highly recommend Cook'n with Class... it's actually rated #1 thing to do in Paris on TripAdvisor. I took a class in 2008 and hope to get there sometime next month and take 1 or 2 classes!

Last summer we did a half day class with Cookin With Class and thoroughly enjoyed it. We did the macaron class. We did this on our last full day and regretted that we did not have time to do more of their classes. It is definitely something we will do on our next trip. They have full day classes as well, so you can decide what works best for you.

I always wanted to take cooking class in France or Italy. Hopefully next time.

So, what to do with a day in Paris? A good problem to have.

thebabycoach, did you have a look through the list of classes I posted above? While it highlights chocolate and pastry, most of the schools listed also teach regular cooking classes. I'd be surprised if there weren't at least one or two options on there that could work.

Did you email http://www.cooknwithclass.com/index.html to ask about availability? They don't show what is open on their webpage. When I emailed our request, they didn't have that particular class scheduled for the day we wanted, but they wrote back and said someone else wanted it too so they were able to do it for us.

Thanks - yes I have been communicating with Cookin with Class - no availability. Also La Cuisine de Marie Blanche, and many others, have classes for several days except for pastry and i only have one day. Not particularly interested in pastry.

But I keep looking.

In the class I took with Cook'n with Class, we made some moelleux au chocolat (molten lava cakes) with an avocado sauce that I've made several times since, and just this past Easter I made a celery root/mashed potatoes side dish that we made during the class too. The main dish, fish with mussel sauce and scallops wasn't too complicated to reproduce at home, but I'm not a big fish lover so I never made it.

The instructor also gave several tips that I've used since, like using a little mill for making mashed potatoes, some knife skills, learning lots about cheeses, etc. Well worth the time and money.
