considering spending a few days in early February in Arcachom

I'd appreciate input re the idea of spending a few days in Arcachon in late Jan., early February. Will be in Bordeaux and will spend some time there. Any recommendation for where in stay in Arcachon? Other ideas for the surrounding area? Thank you everyone and happy holidays@

Hi B,

Are you sure you want to go there in the Winter. Arcachon is a Summer resort.

Arcachon Bay is subject to stiff breezes in the winter months. Dress very warm.

I think Arcachon is worth a day at most that time of year. It's a summer resort where a lot of things will be closed for the winter. The seascapes are nice, but not for long in late January. The other attractions in the area - Cap Ferret and the Sune du Pylat, for example - would also not be much fun to visit at that time of year, though you'd certainly have the benefit of very few tourists.

Why not head into the Dordogne? Make a stop at St-Emilion overnight and then go to Sarlat for a day or two.

I recommend L'Esplanade in Domme (a picturesque village on a rock overlooking the Dordogne valley, about 7 miles from Sarlat). It is 4-star-class with moderate prices. The restaurant has a Michelin-star, but is not formal. See my review:

Hi belle,

We very much liked our stay at the Bonnet Hotel in Beynac.

See my trip report for details.
