confused about scotland
in a week we (a family of 2 adultes and 2 kids ages 6 and 9) are going on our vacation to GB. the england/wales part is o.k, but i can't manage with scotland. can someone suggest me how to plan a 4 days trip around scotland (views, activities, acommodation and so). i only know that i would like to be in the isle of skay and we have 2 more days in edinburgh. oh, and is there a realy great amusement park that worth a visit? thanks a lot.

Four days is really not enough time to spend time on Skye and 2 nights in Edinburgh - they are on opposite sides of the country.

Scotland is a large country and if you have not driven there before it takes a long time to get from place to place.

Both Skye and Edinburgh are wonderful - but if you only have 4 days, pick one or the other - spend 2 nights there and the other two nights nearby. For Skye someplace in the west or Argyll -- Glen Coe, Forth William, Loch Lomond, etc.

For Edinburgh somewhere around Stirling/the trossachs or in the Borders..

Edinburgh in August? With the arts festivals, it's a wildly popular time to visit there. I think you'll want to have reservations for accommodations before you get to town...
Try www.smoothhound.co.uk as well as the edinburgh.org site that infogirl mentions for lengthy listings of hotels, guest houses, b and b's.

Oh - kmarie - I didn't even pick up on that - forgot it was August already!

Yes, goldy - Unless you have everything already booked you really won't find anywhere in Edinburgh on this short notice. The city triples in size during August due to the festivals and Tattoo. So unless you already have accomodations you should probably stay clear of Edinburgh - it is great during the festival but not dragging two kids around w/o someplace to stay.

Go to Skye instead.
