Condos or B & Bs in London

Does anyone have information on a condo in London, preferably near the Kensington area, which would accommodate 4 persons in the first part of January, 1999? Also would like info on B & Bs anyone would recommend near Kensington area. Thanks!

Get the booklet "City Apartments" from the British Tourist authority, and/or type "short lets" or "apartments-London" into a search engine.

Beth, Have not stayed in that area, but a freind of mine recommends the Brooke Hotel. I will look for info in my records. I have included below a link that may help with you research. If you know the are (street), this tool will give you hotels and B&Bs with homepages.

http://uk.multimap.com/all-hotels/places.cgi?db=london

Cheers!

I just came back from Lodon two weeks ago and I stayed in the Kensington area. I must warn you, if money is a concern, London and especially this area is highly expensive. I would advise you to look outside of the main city. Goodluck!

Hotel 165 in Belgravia is really nice and reasonable for the area. About 70 pounds a night. Very comfortable and clean and in a decent area. Nearest tube is Gloucester place but Kensington is in walking distance as is the Kings Road & Sloane square, in the other direction. I stayed there a couple of years ago and was very pleased. Have fun!!!
Having stayed at many apartments in London I offer my opinion. You will get far less value for your money in the Kensington area than others. I don't think it really makes much difference where in London you stay as the bus and tube systems is good and you can go accross the city in a matter of minutes. Do be careful when reading the BTA's listings as we found that what sounds good can in fact be far less that you will expect. I would only rent an apartment if recommended by someone who has stayed there. Lastly, you will get far better value out of the main tourist area's like Kensington.
Beth,
I have stayed at the "Aster House" and "Five Sumner Place", both B&B's located near the South Kensington tube, on a quiet, Victorian street (Sumner Place). They are reasonably priced, but smaller properties, each one having about 13 rooms. Aster House has a sunny orangerie overlooking the street, with a full English breakfast. Be prepared that some of the rooms are very very small, and higher floor rooms can be cold in the winter. If you have more money to spend, would suggest "Number 16" as it's a larger B&B and rooms are much prettier.

(As an aside, I know you are seeking a condo or B&B, but if you happen to be flying on British Air, you can call their Holiday Desk at 1-800-876-2299 (I assume you are from the U.S.) for hotel and apartment packages. I am travelling to London in January and just booked 6 nights at the Bailey's Hotel in Kensington for only $64 per person/per night, all-inclusive (breakfast and VAT). They are offering a special -- book 5 nights and get 1 night free, plus an early booking discount of $100. I have not seen the property, nor talked to anyone who has stayed there (I posted on this forum with no response), but it is listed as a 4-star Victorian property, and the photos look good, so I'm hoping for the best. Wishing you a happy trip.

There is a great service in London called Uptown Reservations. They specialize in B+Bs in upscale London homes. I don't have their number handy but your British Tourist Authority should be able to help you out.
