Concerts at the Saint Chappelle

Are all concerts at night at the Saint Chappelle candlelight concerts? Rick Steves says not to miss the candlelight concerts.

The one I went to in March 2001 was definitely not candlelit but it was really nice as at the beginning (7:30pm)the outside light was still coming in thru the stained glass windows.

Candles or not, you should not miss St Chappelle.

I don't remember candles, but it was sufficently dark in there after the sun set. Until then, the twilight made those incredible stained glass walls glow with a fascinating interplay of light and color.
The acoustics are great, mostly. At times they reverberate considerably.
Best to sit up front near the instruments.
Great concert--no candles. If it is cool outside (like fall or winter) be sure to dress warmly!

A lot of concerts at the Ste Chapelle, Madeleine, Eglise Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre and also at the American Church are listed till December on the following web site:

http://www.ampconcerts.com/

Just click on "entrer/enter" and then the month you're interested in. Usually, you should be able to get tickets at the door, unless it's really a big thing. But all churches are rather spacious, not the Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre though (a lovely place to be).

For Saint Chapelle, there are flyers posted on the fence by the door..if you happen to walk by when they're closed like we did. You can also go to the box office to find out, which is just behind the ticket counter to buy a ticket to tour the chapel. You do not need reservations normally for St. Chapelle.
