Como (Lake/City) Italy!!!!
Have to make a quick decision on whether or not I can find something to do in Como while my husband is there on business for three days. I do not speak Italian but I do love History and reading. Does anyone know if it would be worth going with him or should I pass. We are from the USA. Thank you.

Como is really cute. We actually stayed in Bellagio and went to Como as a side trip. We loved it though. It had quaint little streets and markets and everything you could ask for. And don't worry, our italian is very minimal. Italians are usually really nice about trying to speak english.

Thanks to all of you for your most welcome replies. You made up my mind and I'm going. The place we will actually be at will be Lenno, Italy on Lake Como and then we will go to Hanau, Germany for three days. Any information on either area will be greatfully appreciated.

Hi Margaret: Is it possible you mean Lecco, Italy??? Although I've only passed through Lecco we can tell you about Varenna (just north about 20 km) and the ferry over to Bellagio. They are something special and probably less than an hour from Lecco. Please advise. You will get a lot of ideas about Bellagio and other spots on Lake Como....Paul J
Paul, Thank you for your concern. I found Lecco on the map and it appears to be on the Eastern side of Lake Como. The plave we will be going to is actually directly across the Lake on the Western side. We have never been there but the company my husband works for has a manufacturing division located in a place that is called Lenno. I have found Lenno on a map. The problem is I do not have a clue as to what is there or what to do when we get there. Thanks again for your reply.

Ann, Thank you for the input, but what do I do in Bellagio. It does not look far from where we would be, a little South, but I'm now wondering why there is no information on Lenno. I know it's real but I can't find anyone who has been there. Well anyway I will do my best to take the Hydrofoil. Where do you get it? What is the cost? How long of a ride? Thank you!!!

Margaret, you got me curious about Lenno. The only website info was on Italian websites...my Italian is not very good, so all I could figure out is that there's a convent there and a couple of 4* hotels - and that it's near Termezzo (?). If you have time, contact the Italian Tourist Office and get info on Lombardy, and the Como area in particular. They should have maps, etc. on the region (their brochures/booklets are full of gorgeous pictures). I've got info on this area somewhere in my files - I'll try to find it. I know that Como is a silk industry center - factories, showrooms, etc.
The site I used for ferry info when we were in Milan was: http://www.rcl.it/jp/orari/default.html
It's in Italian, but it's pretty simple to figure out the schedule. Fares are a couple of dollars in most cases.
We found no problem that our Italian was, at best, rudimentary...lots of people speak English, and those that didn't enjoyed our pantomimes and really bad accented Italian!
