Communal dining in Rome?
I tried searching the board for advice on dining alone, and the well-meaning answer is usually "Don't be self conscious, bring your journal to write in, enjoy your meal!" Well, I'll admit - although I love traveling solo, dinnertime is not my favorite. And I don't like to read or write while I eat! : )
So... although I hope to meet up with other travelers (and maybe locals) to dine with, can anyone recommend casual but good neighborhood restaurants in Rome where they have communal tables or seat you with others, or where it's customary to dine at the bar? Thanks!

We have stayed at the Hotel Lancelot and they serve dinner at communal tables, ususally eight people. They have people staying there from all over, very interesting folks, and the food is good and very resonable if you take half board. I usually prefer this to eating out when I am alone.

Thanks Grinisa, I just looked up those two restaurants and they are EXACTLY what I am looking for!
And thanks too Susanna, I will keep the Lancelot in mind for a hotel. I wouldn't choose the half board plan as I like to experience different restaurants, but it is a nice option to have on a night to night basis. I do think they need to update their website, their rates are from 4 years ago and listed in Lire!

Alfredo e Ada, Via dei Banchi Nuovi 14. It is very close to the Bridge of Angels leading to the Castel Sant'Angelo. Gorgeous at night.
Alfredo is no longer among us, but Ada is, assisted by family members. This tiny restaurant is circa the 1940s. There are about 8 tables, each seating 2-6. No menu. Ada seems to have two set dinners each night, and just brings a plate of one of them to you. Along with the rest. Roman comfort food! Wine from the family vinyard.
