"I'm captivated by Dordogne area. I keep finding so much to do. Anyone think a week is too long? "

Not I!

TPAYT bookmarked your TR, thanks. Checked out the apartment agency and emailed them, didn't see if any have a washer and dryer.

How much noise did you get at night in town?

#*&! we'll not be there until the 4th weekend!

We were in a small square around the corner and 1 block down from Les Gaulois restaurant on the main street.
No noise at all at night. A couple of small more daytime cafes outside our windows which were closed at night.

Very convenient to the main street which had more activity a few blocks away from our corner. Parking was maybe 3 blocks away as well as a grocery store. Oh, and a few blocks to a bakery. I made coffee while my husband went to get goodies in the morning.

The apt. service was excellent right from the initial email. We met at their office (easy to find near parking) and they walked us to the apt. to show us around.

Washer & dryer? I don't remember as we didn't use them.

Happy planning!

Stu, I hope we can buy you and your wife a drink or two next September! And please ask her if there are any special places for pottery, REAL crafts in the area that she would like to recommend to us

Unfortunately I sometimes get too obsessive about what I want in a rental. I can't find one in Sarlat that ticks all the right boxes.

This one is a 5 minute drive from Sarlat it's the frontrunner at the moment. There are 2 rentals on the property but quite separate.

If you tab La Grange on the menu of the 2 rentals, the first 10 pictures are of La Grange.

Welcome any thoughts on it.

Looks lovely. I wouldn't want to leave.
We just prefer to be in a town to walk to dinner after driving around all day.

Is Issigeac not central enough to be a base?

Way too far west. Nice Bastide town, however. You want to be within 20 K of Sarlat.

Yea, that's what I figured after looking a little closer at some of the distances. It's between the one above outside Sarlat and another in Beynac.

I know you're looking for a rental, but FWIW, I had a pleasant stay at the welcoming, non-pretentious, and VERY convenient Hotel Montaigne:

Main reasons we look for a rental are cost for the 3 of us, more room, and a washer and dryer ~ makes it easier to pack light and do laundry while we're in our slippers and PJs at night!

You probably already know this from your previous travels in Europe - but it takes about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hrs to wash a load, and 2-3 hrs to dry it. Washer capacities are small. Only about 5-8% of the gites we've stayed in (about 60) had dryers. All had washers.

Hi Stu

Yes, some of the time we can figure out a quick cycle for washing, and for drying we'll do a combo of their condensation dryers and rack drying. It was a real pain in Madeira where it rained some every day so we couldn't leave anything outside to dry, and we only had racks inside. So even a condensation dryer helps, and we still find it preferable to spending precious vacation time at a laundromat!

Anyone know if the Sunday morning Market in St Cyprien is still active in late September?

I was at the St-Cyprien market this September 27 and it was as busy as I had seen it earlier in the season in past years.

Good to know laverendrye, is it a nice market, fairly authentic? How large is it?

Any other towns near Sarlat and Beynac have a Sunday morning market?

Every single fresh market in the Dordogne is active all year long, with the exception of the Monday market in Les Eyzies. All of them are authentic, as in they've been going since about the 12th century. The market in St-Cyprien is huge. You will never find a cluster of markets that are close to each other open on the same day - it wouldn't make any sense. Vendors usually go to about 6 different markets a week. Buyers tend to go to whichever market is closest to where they live. With the exception of Monday, there are markets on every day of the week.

>>dugi_otok ~ 5 minutes walking or driving? Looks lovely!<<

5 min driving.

Has a washer and dryer. Also outside drying.
Boulangerie nearby

If you want to stay in Sarlat we have stayed here: http://www.villaconsuls.fr/en/accueil/
Very nice, several washers and dryers in a public area. Our apt looked down on the market. one of the photos shows this.

For Carcassonne we stayed here: Also very nice.
