DH and I flew to Palermo, bussed to Siracusa and trained to Sorrento.
In Palermo, we walked to Park, Palatine and Duomo; we taxied to Monreale (DH made a deal with a taxi driver); and we bussed to Mondello and Agrigento. We did a fair amount of walking from where the bus let us off to the ruins. And it was crowded coming back to Palermo on a Sunday night.
In Siracusa, we walked just about everywhere except to the train when we left for Sorrento.
There were 3 different bus companies in Palermo. With one, you bought your ticket from the driver; with the others, you went to separate windows. They were in a group near the train station but it was confusing. Maybe things have changed.
I left my duffle bag on the bus in (I know, stupid) but it was turned in to lost and found. We took a taxi to the bus company and DH and driver struck up a friendship and he took us around and picked us up each day. He also helped with the bus tickets. I can't find his card anymore or I'd tell you to look him up!
Have a super time.

Hello,
It's a nice trip to do but keep in mind that public transports in Sicily are really poor. I mean, if you need a long range train or bus it can be ok, but to reach the smaller villages it could be not easy.
It makes no sense, in my opinion, to go to Palermo and get back to Agrigento while you are in Ragusa. I'd try to arrange a circular trip.
It is not a bad idea to visit Malta. I suggest to take the catamaran from Pozzallo (Ragusa) to La Valletta, it takes just 1.45 h.
You can reach Patti by train from Palermo.
I hope this will help you.
Enjoy your stay in Sicily
