Comfort Inn Mouffetard-Any advice?
We're planning a trip to Paris in April and the Comfort Inn Mouffetard was one of the hotel choices. It seems like a good place but I would like to hear if anyone has stayed there. Is staying in the 5th a good idea? We've never been to Paris so any advice is welcome!
Thanks,
C.C.

If you have a map (or use www.mappy.com) you can relate to my feedback. We stayed on rue Lacepede, near Metro place Monge, and we walked up rue Mouffetard one morning. The area has a lot of shops, small cafes, little squares, very nice. It is a good stroll to go by the Pantheon and head for the Seine. I think the 5th will be very colorful and there is much to see in the area. We didn't eat dinner in the area, but you can search here for restaurant recommendations (but no need to limit yourself to the 5th for meals). St. Severin is an interesting church to visit, and Eglise St Julien-le-Pauvre has a lovely park, right across from Notre Dame. Both offer occasional concerts of some kind. The Place Monge has a food market several days a week, fun to buy some fruit and look around. Near Jardin du Luxembourg you can find Cafe Orbital, and EasyEverything on rue de la Harpe, both internet cafes. We didn't have time to stroll through the Jardin des Plantes, but perhaps you will. You'll enjoy Paris! p.s. the hotel rooms will be very small but you'll be fine (typical of most hotels)

The street you'd be on has a lot of small shops and restaurants...it also has a wonderful open-air market that I think is just about right outside your door and runs almost every day of the week, if not every day.

That said, I think I'd pick something closer to the river and Notre Dame if you're looking to be in the 5th. You'll probably want/need to take the metro from the Comfort Inn to get wherever you want 'cause it'll be quite a trek otherwise. I like staying in the 5th, but "your section" is a place I go to for a few hours each trip. Have you researched the Hotel St. Jacques or the Grandes-Ecoles?

I don't know the hotel itself, but that area of the 5th would not be my first choice. It's just a bit out of the way, and personally I think the restaurants in that area are pretty poor by Paris standards and the street life less interesting, except for the market on the rue Mouffetard, which I wouldn't want to be too close to on a daily basis. I would opt to be closer to the river in the 5th, as someone else has mentioned, or in the 6th.
