Colosseum in Rome question

We can't wait to go to Italy in 3 weeks! We were hoping to visit the colosseum on Monday, May 1 (Labor Day). Any thoughts from Fodorites as to if it would be open for tourists on that holiday? I very much appreciate the assistance...

I don't think Italians recognize Labor Day as a national holiday. It is an American holiday...you need to follow the above link and check out Italian holidays.

Wow - what a helpful, quick response! Thank you...I'll add Colosseum to my list of "to-dos" on Monday.

Yes, Italy does have a Labor Day, not related datewise to the US version. What's more, despite popular opinions to the contrary they also have a Fourth of July. That date is the same as ours though, and it is not a holiday.
