In Rome and Florence this Feb i noticed nice newly paved bike paths along the Tiber and in Florence along the Arno - they appear to go for miles and no traffic hassles.

In Rome i don't know how far these paths go but they seem to head for the former Olympic Park and stadium, a world-class track venue and lots of open spaces.

To go in cirlces but big circles in Rome head for the Circus Maximus - the huge race track that must be a mile or so around - it's below the Forum and open to public, which likes to walk their dogmas there.

In Florence you can also check out the Fortress area just north of the main train station about a mile, along the Arno - there is a vast park here that would be good for jogging.

Rome the Borghese Gardens have miles and miles of dirt tracks.

I've jogged similar mileage several times in Venice and though it's harder i'd head for the eastern end, around the gardens and old port area for less traveled routes. Not a problem really. Or he/she could hop a boat to the Lido and run wild along the beach.

And in Florence last Jan i also walked around the Athletics Compound just on the other side of the Campo di Fiore train station - here they also have world-class running tracks and ample room to stretch out your stride without traffic worries.

for years on business trips i jogged similar mileage around cities

I found that an early start is good as the city will be fairly calm and you can run thru the streets... and these cities can get very hot in midday and also rather smoggy.

Ah a nice 10 mile jaunt and back for a nice hotel breakfast! I wish i were young again - i ran at least 10 miles a day everyday for 35 years - can only walk now due to some knee injuries but still clock in at least 10 miles a day.
