Closest airport to Positano

My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy next May. We are thinking about spending 2 days in Rome and then 4 days in Positano (our first visit to the Amalfi Coast). We would like to use Positano as a base and day trip to Capri, Ravello and Pompei. Ideally, we would like to fly back to the U.S. from the international airport that is closest to Positano, rather than taking the train back to Rome for the return flight. Grateful for any advice on this plan. Where is the closest international airport? Is is likely to be more convenient to just head back to Rome?

Thanks.

Hi,

The nearest airport to Positano is in Naples, but I don't think that you can get a nonstop flight to the U.S. from Naples. You'd probably have to go to London, ( or you could stopover in Paris) then fly home from there. That's way most people flying home to the States go through Rome, which is only about a two and half-three hour drive from Positano. Good luck!

You can fly directly to Naples by making an easy connection in Milan/Malpensa.

Rome is the closest international airport. You will love Positano, Ravello and Pompeii, but try to get to the arch. museum in Naples. A lot of of the artifacts from Pompeii are there.
