classic music in Venice

Where would you suggest to go in Venice for the opera or classic music?

The name of the opera house in Venice is Teatro La Fenice.

For other music, it is best to go to the tourist office or ask your hotel while you are in Venice.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. We are going to be in Venice in end of March and would like to see somethig special for the atmosphere of Venice. I would like to order ticket through the internet and the site I was given is Classictic.com On this site you can read in english. But I still have a hard time to decide. Do you have any other thoughts? Thanks again. Ellen

Well less formal there are the string orchestras that play at outdoor cafes on St Mark's Square - several - get a cuppa and enjoy.

I don't believe the orchestras are in the pizza in March.

elachka,

I am reluctant to choose a concert for you. The time you are going is not the most crowded time for Venice. I think you can wait and talk to your hotel or the tourist office when you are in Venice.

Interpreti Veneziani seems to be performing in March. They have many CD's and are well established in Venice. You can contact Nalesso and inquire further if you have a specific request. Nalesso Records is very helpful and they speak English. It is not necessary to purchase tickets in advance, especially for March.

We found that there were lots of posters around Venice for upcoming concerts, and we just made note of what we wanted to see and walked over to the church (usually) the day before to get tickets.

Maybe they're in the sauce.

Some of them can be cheesy.

A few years ago we went to a lovely concert featuring The Four Seasons (The Vivaldi one, not the Franki Valli-led group) at Chiesa Di San "Don't Call Me Gore" Vidal, located very near the Accademia Bridge. At only 22 euros apiece, we felt we got a very good concert without going baroque.

There are often short, early evening concerts in some of the churches. Some are even free and quite good. Check on those at the tourist office and watch for fliers.
