Cinque Terre/Nice

We are planning a 9 day trip to Cinque Terre this summer and are wondering whether we should split the time with the south of France, Menton/Nice I saw another post saying it was too much.

If we did base ourselves in the Italian riviera what else would you suggest? Our last trip to Italy (Venice/Florence/Tuscany)we stayed at hotels no longer than 3 nights each and that rhythm seemed to work for us...

We like good food, historic sights, less touristy places, charming small towns, museums and more. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcome!! Annealex

Should be "then", not "they"

We stayed in Santa Margherita Ligure 3 nights, and day-tripped to the Cinque Terre. Then we went to Nice for three nights, and day-tripped to Antibes. We liked both coastal towns for home bases. I wrote trip reports on each, which include recommendations for value lodging and restaurants:

Perhaps you might consider staying in Monaco for a few days, there is a lot to see and do here. But from here you can really explore all the nearby hideaway villages, rural museums and more. Both in France and Italy. Monaco is 10 mins from the border.

Medieval villeage like Gorbio, Roquebrune, Peille, Peillon, Seborga, Apricale, DolceAcqua, L'Escarene, Breil Sur Roya, and many many more, they are all simply stunning, and incredible.

They are all short trips out of Monte Carlo. Try http://www.rivierarentalguide.com/ex...iviera/monaco/ for all the information on what it's like to stay in our beautiful principality.

Happy holidays!

Thanks for your ideas. Yes, I do hear Nice is very crowded, but I understand there are some charming towns around the area. I will enthusiastically read your reports! Annealex
