Cinque Terre accomodations

Hello,
Has anyone ever stayed at the Hotel Stella Maris in Levanto? Is it relatively easy to get to Cinque Terre without having a car? We'll be relying on the train system.
I'm having a hard time trying to decide where to stay in this region since I have to plan for my family (6 adults, 2 in there 50's and the remaining 4 adults in their late 20's and early 30's).
We currently have rooms reserved at the Hotel Continental in Santa Margherita Ligure, but wasn't sure how far SML is from CT. We want a nice hotel (not more than 200 Euros/room/night) with the convenience of visiting the CT region and having things for my parents to do if they don't want to hike around. From what I understand, SML may have more to do versus the little towns in CT. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? We are going to be there in mid-May.

Thanks in advance,
JC

It is quite easy to get to CT by train. Most of the hotels are found in Monterosso, you might check out Pasquale or Hotel villa Steno. Very inexpensive at villa Steno but there are some steep stairs if that is of concern. I can't speak for SML, I would suggest you do a search on this board and see what comes up.

JC, I love SML but it is a bit far if you really want to max out the CT. I also know the Stella Maris--it is OK but not in the class of the Cont. Levanto, however is very convenient and a nice beach town in its own right. Life is full of tough decisions.

Bob,
Thanks for the info. Do you know of any hotels in Levanto that is comparable to the Hotel Continental in SML? I've already tried Hotel Pasquale and Villa Sterno in Monterosso, but they are fully booked. I seem to have a hard time finding accomodations for 6 adults in the CT area. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
JC

I have to disagree with Bob. It takes about 45 minutes by train from SML to Monterosso and you then have the whole day to explore the CT towns, which are less than 5 minutes apart on the trains. SML is considerably larger than the CT towns and those in your party would have more to do if they didn't follow you to CT. For example, they could easily take the bus to Portofino.

JC, I do not know of any good 4 stars in Levanto. However, the Porta Roca in Monterosso is the best in the CT.
