CIE Tours of Ireland - any opinions?
I'm wanting to make a good decision in the selection of a tour company for Ireland. I had pretty much decided on Insight Vacations and then begin to read about CIE on this board, and it sounds quite good. I was wondering if any one has any additional, or new, opinions about CIE. If you have used them, what were your likes and dislikes? I will certainly appreciate any thoughts you might have in this regard. Thanks, Jim

I've taken CIE tour and the higher priced Tauck. I would choose CIE hands down. The tour guides are Irish (many other tours have american guides) and tell you all about Ireland's rich history and is happy to answer any questions you may have. The value can't be beat. As a matter of fact Tauck offers almost the same Itinerary as the Irish Supreme tour I took last year for $1000 more! I would choose CIE again in a second. Too bad they don't do tours of all of Europe.

Hi:
I did a Irish and British Voyager Tour (15 Days) with my Mom in October 1999.

It was wonderful! We had never been to Ireland before so this was our introduction.

The guide was Alocoque from Dublin and Irish driver was Mike from Killarney and the British driver was Billy from Glasgow.
The knowledge and humor exhibited by these folks was exceptional. It was a whirlwind to say the least, but it was well worth it.
The hotels were very nice and if we were not too happy with the room given, they went out of their way to make it good. My only complaint was the the amount of food served to us (if I continued at that pace I would have gained 20 pounds) Plentiful and delicious.
Enjoy your trip!
