"What really gets me worked up is the title of the original post with its incorrect apostrophe. It injures my eyes every time I see it."

Grammar police.
It never ceases to amaze me how prosaic, pedestrian, unimaginative members of this forum can be. You want to persistently pontificate about classical grammatical structure as if it is figging rocket science. These must be the same people who hate Picasso, because he couldn't keep the paint inside the lines and the colors never matched the numbers. No matter who gives a flying fig?

Oh, so you just imagine grammar and spelling at random?

That's precious.

that would be me, actually. But I know how easy it is to mistype, let alone avoid the attentions of the autocorrect, and without an edit function, once we have pressed submit we are jiggered.

I find it somewhat dull to use both prosaic and unimaginative in one sentence.

<<predominately >>

You mean predominantly. Jeez.>

Well yeh predominately it was meant to be.

No spell check in use and fast typing - maybe that's how Chunnel came about - someone mean Channel for Tunnel and typed Chunnel by mistake and it took?

if you had been actually following the discussion?

Do you mean that thing about Kraft? No, I saw that.

Where I live in Australia, every darn quasi-governmental/public system company ends up being called "_____link"... (or just branded with the "me too" name someone else uses). Centrelink (poverty assistance), Metrolink (trains), Aqualink (the public pool)... on it goes. Like there's someone who's job it is to remind the rebrand meeting that "link" means "to connect together", so no one forgets how clever the idea is.

And yet they're ALL more imaginative than "Getlink". "Get?" Is this a reminder to people to shop while over on the other side?

I guess if your product has, after much staring at a large hole, been called "Channel Tunnel", "Getlink" is a step up in creativity. Imagine if they WERE renaming Kraft products. "A Topping For Salads which Often is Named After a Large Farm Raising Livestock"

Do I read article wrong - Channel Tunnel is not being renamed, right and if it were Chunnel would be the only logical choice- not!

No, the Eurotunnel is not being renamed, which is why I find this blathering about "Getlink" ridiculous. Is there anybody here who actually believes that the owners ever said that people will be taking the 'Getlink' between London and Paris? If so, they should go back and take a literacy class.

Getlink is the company and "Eurotunnel" is the product/service. Eurotunnel is sufficiently uninspiring enough to remain in place. It seems though like people were getting tired of not knowing or caring what the old parent company/agency name was so they went to invest a couple of million in something more generic.

If they ever DO rename, I get any royalties on "The Black Hole of Europa"

Is it true that the tubes in the Channel Tunnel (aka Brexit Chute) flip over midway so you are on one side of the double-tracked tunnel railway when you emerge?

If so why?

Our local pool is called WaterMarc - who knows why?
The pool where I take my granddaughter is called Northcote Aquatic and recreation centre.
At least the ring road isn't called link . I've not heard the trains referred to as link .

Instead of Chunnel I’d suggest that we call it the Euronel (but that would be taking the piss out of you) ;-)

Northie I didn't think I needed to get into what centrelink was in any great detail, as it wasn't really what the thread was about and didn't know if any other Aussies would come along anyway.

Just seemed to me half of everything in our area is either a ***link or ****works.
