Christmas windows of Paris

Today, I made a point of visiting the Christmas windows of Boulevard Haussmann at 7 a.m. when I could have them to myself. Anybody who has been to Paris at this time of year knows that there is absolutely no way to approach them at any normal time of day.

I will always be a child at Christmas, so I adored the windows:

Hi Kerouac, merci for sharing. I am planning our Christmas dinner in New England. Just wondering, if I may ask, how are you and your family are spending Christmas in Paris? Particularly interested in a typical French menu for Noel.

Thanks Kerouac. I always enjoy your photo threads and this one is especially delightful because I got to have a little taste of being in Paris at Christmas.

kerouac,

Thank you! When we left Paris mid November to come back to the states, the decorating was just beginning. I was so wishing I could see the windows finished...now I have...fantastic!

Kerouac thanks for waking early to bring us Christmas in Paris! I keep saying "one of these years", but until then, I appreciate your reports. Paris at Christmas has the trade-off of shops and restaurants being closed, but I imagine the ambiance of the season offsets the inconvenience.

Since we're in the mood for Christmas, here's what I am humming this week:

Twelve vintage bottles / Eleven lost Picassos
Ten chefs creating / Nine waiters waiting
Eight “Gordon” courses/ Seven Marly horses
Six scarves from Hermès / Five Ma-ca-rons
Four garden chairs / Three baguettes / Two camemberts
And a pied-à-terre in the Rue Cler

Happy holidays--
Julie

Thanks for sharing, K.

They aren't as impressive as department-store window displays were around 1950. But. I'm no longer 10 yrs old.

Thanks for sharing. We were in Paris in October. I wondered what those windows would look like at Christmas. Now I know. Loved them both. Printemps is our favourite.

Isn't everyone a little kid during the holidays?

I remember the windows in NYC when I was a little girl, oh so long ago but these are brillant!

As a child, I remember how just a teddy bear emerging from a box in a shop window was completely mesmerizing.

Great videos. I really like the use of the marionettes, especially the haunted house section in the first video. The ghosts float so nicely.

Thank you for sharing this! I'm so anxious to see them in person now that you've shared your video. And, yes, thank you for getting up early and braving the cold weather to do this.

Mainhattengirl, I loved the haunted house as well and the poor fellow running backwards away from the ghost. Very cute.

Kerouac, thank you so much!! As aussie_10 said, we don't have anything like that in our windows here in Australia. They are decorated but not to that extent.

How long are they left in place for after Christmas?
