Christmas windows in Paris 2016

Thanks, but frankly I have dropped through the floorboards in mortification at the fact that the title says Nöel instead of Noël in the video. You must all feel that I am a total cretin now.

We haven't mustered the energy to get by the store windows yet -- our Christmas in Paris has featured massive head colds. I suppose we should be hanging out with the Queen instead! Our getting out has been mostly to where there were *supposed* to be Christmas markets -- most of them that have been publicized never opened. The one supposedly at the foot of the ET? -- ONE food booth in addition to the usual vendors. Very disappointing.
And nothing at all of the large market that was at Trocadero.
Champs-Elysées of course, but the City needs to do some serious repair work to those sidewalks before the next market. Most pavers seriously cracked, many with chunks MISSING and potholes seeking the unaware ankle to twist. The plastic sections they use to cover the unpaved areas are badly worn, and flex unexpectedly.
One day left before we wing home; maybe we'll muster some energy to see if there's really a market at Invalides as all the posters promise.

Publicized by what source? So much security is now required at the Christmas markets (already starting a couple of years ago in Paris) that most of the small ones no longer exist. They were getting out of hand anyway, besides selling all the same junk.
The Invalides market is new because it is enclosed in a very secure place.

I would be surprised if any of them were open after Christmas. My Son operates several Christmas markets in Germany, and they all shut down at the end of the day on December 23rd. He has to have his goods packed, the huts torn down, and out of the town squares by the next day.
Perhaps they do things differently in France, though.
(BTW, my heart skipped several beats when the press announced that terrorist attack!)

One final "new" holiday tradition (7 years old) should be covered before the season completely ends. The Musée des Arts Forains opens to the public right after Christmas for a week, and it is an amazing place. It has a multitude of carnival heirlooms, some of which appeared in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, and while normally one can only visit through scheduled guided tours, this week it is in full operation, with dozens of performances taking place in each room of the museum as families wander around, with or without children. There is also a private interior cobbled street with old time carnival food available. This year it will be open until 2 January 2017.

As things now stand, the Champs Elysées Christmas market in Paris remains cancelled this year, but the mafia organizer who has been running it (and the Ferris wheel, which will continue for the moment) is threatening to install the market without authorization. Maybe we'll all be able to go and photograph "the Great Paris Christmas Riot."
