Christmas itinerary for Munich

My friend and I will be arriving in Munich on 12/19 and will be leaving on 12/31. We would like to spend the first 3-4 nights and the last 2 nights in Munich. We also hope to see Bamberg (maybe 3-4 nights?), and Rothenburg (2 nights?). We also would like to see Nurnberg, Regensburg, and Neuschwanstein. Both of us are interested in seeing the Christmas markets, architecture, churches, and museums. What would be the best itinerary traveling by train/bus that would take into account the holiday? Also, does anyone have any favorite budget pensions in these areas? Thanks in advance for any help!

Don't know what you mean by budget. You may want to check out the KATHY BROWN paperback book GERMAN INNS AND ITINERARIES. This is a good list of nice places and they have the email contact with prices. We have used her a lot and find the recommendations good.

I would overnight in Rothenburg. REICHS KUCHENMEISTER HOTEL is nice, but I do not have current rates. Don't believe you need 3 nights in Bamaberg. May want to stay overnight in Garmisch. The HILLEPRANDT in Garmisch is nice, clean and reasonable.

Thank-you for the replies!
I have previously been to Salzburg and loved it. I have a room in Munich for the first 4 nights (12/19-12/22) and the last 2 nights (12/29-12/30). I have also booked a room in Rothenburg for 2 nights 12/27-12/28). I still have the 12/23-12/26 open and am unsure where to go that would best work over the holiday. I definitely want to see Bamberg but now think 4 nights there would be too much. I like the Garmisch suggestion or maybe even Innsbruck, but I am a little unsure what order I should see these cities that would make the best use of my time. I would like to keep the hotels to a minimum and do more day trips if possible.
Thanks again for any help.
