Christmas in Paris

Hello All! I am new to Fodor's Forum and I am looking for some input on a vacation I am planning. My husband and I honeymooned in Paris in July 2013 and we loved it. We loved it so much we decided to go back from December 23 - December 30 2014. I would have liked to leave earlier, but my husband's work schedule did not permit it. We will be arriving the 24th (Christmas Eve Day) early in the morning. Will arriving the day before Christmas cause us to miss out on Christmas themed happenings? Are there any specific places/restaurants/tours that you would recommend? Would you recommend staying in the 6th before the 1st and 2nd? Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The 6th and 7th are both fine. There's not that much you will miss out on, things go on through 6 January, Epiphany, 2015. But it will be rather quiet on Christmas day, so plan accordingly. In this case, renting an apartment would be better than staying at a hotel.

You will need to make restaurant reservations for dinner on the 24th, it's a busy night out on the town with everyone out shopping.

Keep an eye on 'The Paris Pages' (www.paris.fr) to keep up to date on what's happening.

Thank you! We are planning on attending a Mass at the Notre Dame and then having a nice dinner on Christmas. I am curious for recommendations on shows, french onion soup, an original (inexpensive) painting of the French countryside, the best chocolate croissants, etc!

We went to the CE concert at Ste Chapelle last year - great way to spend the night.

Our TRs from previous trips - we love the 6TH.

We had a great Christmas week in Nice one year and met up (through the Fodors Forum) with a lovely American couple. Here is Roz's report on their Christmas they had in Paris. There might be some tips on what to see and do.

I would also recommend staying in an apartment unless you think you'd need a lot of help from reception/concierge. If you are in an apartment you have a lot more space and facilities but are usually 'on your own'.

We have done a couple of guided walks in Paris and really enjoyed them. Usually you turn up and pay, no need to reserve in advance. Here is the link to the company we went with, the guide was English.
