Does anyone have any advice about what to do in London during Christmas and Boxing day when most things are closed. Is there a place to get a traditional English dinner on Christmas? And are stores closed or open on Boxing day? <BR> <BR> Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

increasingly the sales are starting on Boxing Day so more and more shops are open - <BR> <BR>museums and cultural attractions won't be open though. <BR> <BR>Boxing Day is great fro strolling along the river - burning off Christmas Day's excess - and then holing up in a pub for a few hours (all pubs will be open)

We were in London for Christmas and Boxing day last year, on Christmas Day we took the two London Walks walking tours (they both meet at Traffalger(sp) Sq. On Boxing Day we took another London Walk. Many shops were open B.D. though Fortnum and Mason's did not open until the 29th (maybe because Christmas and Boxing days were on Sat and Sunday). <BR> <BR>We ordered from Christmas Dinner from Harrod's, picked it up on the 24 and heated it up on the 25th (we were staying in an apartment). There were some resturants open and you may want to check wsome of the nicer hotels for dinner reservations in their resturant. <BR> <BR>Be prepaired for cold rainy days, so the weather will not adversly affect your trip. We dresed in layers so while outside on walking tours (we took several) we were comfortable and when we went into a museum or shop we could remove jackets and sweaters and not be too hot. <BR> <BR>Hope this helps and have a wonderful trip!!

We took a bus to Nottinghill and walked along the market street where the film was made. But on Christmas day we celebrated in our apartment with the food we bought. Went to midnight mass at the Oratory where we heard incredible music from the live orchestra and chorus. Then late drinks at the apt, slept late, visited friends we met on a different trip, walked around, had a grand dinner at the flat, walked around London some more. Boxing day we saw a play, yes, we did. We managed to keep active. Check with British Tourist Office in NY. They will send loads of info specific to the holidays. We go regularly for the holidays and love it.
