It depends where you are coming from.
If you are Australian, it's probably hard to get maple syrup, for instance, but easy if you are from the North-East US or Eastern Canada.
If you are in the south-east US, why not take a big bucket of Barbecue pork with you, if your flight is direct?
Or a box of your country's candy bars. Many countries have some sort of local speciality.
Maybe your friends could make good use of a bolt of local cloth. And some people who are good friends would be happy to receive a framed photograph of something special from near where you live. A nice shot of a New Zealand mountain or the Chinook arch as seen from Calgary, or .... depending on where you live.
A friend of mine in west Texas once sent me her local newspaper, just so I could get a feel for where she lived. I'm in a giant city outside the USA, and found her local paper fascinating. She also sent my son a lariat; something we don't find locally. If you are from cowboy country, Brits might like something along this theme.
Stamps, if smart children are involved.

It's one of those sites which is less helpful than appears at first sight. Read the whole of the site very carefully. In essence, you can't import meat from outside Europe.
